Toyota has announced the return of the GR86 Hakone special edition for the 2025 model year, a tribute to Japan's Hakone Turnpike. Arriving at Toyota dealerships in Fall 2024, this stylish variant stands out with its Ridge Green exterior and exclusive design features. Built on the GR86 Premium grade, the Hakone special edition comes with a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, and offers a choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

The GR86 Hakone special edition boasts 18-inch satin bronze-finished wheels, a color-keyed duck-tail spoiler, black accents, and a unique Hakone badge. Inside, the vehicle features Ultrasuede® sport seats with tan leather trim and stitching, a special edition shift knob with bronze accents, and a GR special edition plaque. Standard Brembo® brakes and SACHS dampers enhance the driving experience, ensuring superior handling and braking performance.

Performance upgrades for the 2025 GR86 include retuned shocks, electric power steering, and revised throttle mapping for quicker response. The vehicle's lightweight construction, using an aluminum hood, front fenders, and roof panel, helps maintain a weight of just 2,811 lbs for the manual transmission model. This, combined with the Torsen® limited-slip rear differential, ensures the GR86 delivers an engaging and responsive driving experience.

The 2025 GR86 lineup also features enhanced safety and connectivity, including Toyota's Active Safety Suite and Connected Services trials. The GR86 Hakone special edition is limited to just 860 units for the U.S. market, making it a unique and desirable option for sports car enthusiasts. Pricing details for the special edition and the complete 2025 GR86 lineup will be announced later this year.
